We honor the foundation laid by the breeders and enthusiasts before us who shaped the dogs we value today. Our commitment to European working standards reflects a responsibility to preserve proven traits, sound temperament, working ability, thoughtful selection, and quality for generations to come.

 

We also encourage people to look beyond the increasingly popular term “imported.” A dog being imported does not automatically make it well-bred, proven, or superior. Every country has exceptional breeders as well as poor breeding practices, and “imported” has increasingly become a marketing term. Pedigree, provenance, health, temperament, production, and the quality behind the dog matter far more than the country it came from. We have always favored the European standards of the proven and experienced enthusiast/ breeders- often their approach to the breed is more diverse- viewing the whole dog- not just the work aspect.

On social media, the Malinois has unfortunately become popularly portrayed as an extreme, uncontrollable, high-drive “beast,” with ownership sometimes presented as a test of who can handle the most difficult dog. That demand can influence which dogs are marketed and exported to Americans, but those extreme examples do not represent the full balance, versatility, intelligence, stability, and practicality found throughout quality European working lines. To be clear some are absolute beasts- and yes we have those too and they are on career paths- not placed in the wrong homes but with homes and experienced handlers who team with the dog in said field.

With all that said, it’s important to interview multiple breeders. Understand their program, purpose, bloodlines, and selection process—and ask questions. A breeder who portrays themselves as a “lion tamer,” insists Malinois are dogs most people simply cannot handle, or shows little interest in your goals, lifestyle, and expectations should be considered a red flag. A breeder who lacks knowledge of the breed’s rich and diverse heritage, versatility, and purpose is missing an important part of what makes the Malinois exceptional. This breed has long been selected not only for working ability, but for its capacity to bond deeply, work in partnership, and serve alongside people. A lack of appreciation or understanding of that versatility reflects a limitation in the breeder’s knowledge—not in the breed. Whether the dog is sold for family, service, sport or work - it's ability to bond, its biddability and being able to understand and respond to expectations with a clear and intelligence mind is paramount.
